You will produce sales and ensure that exceptional service is provided to all customers. You will direct all activities required to achieve sales, service, merchandise presentation, design excellence, loss prevention, and expense control goals to ensure consistency within the Design Within Reach mission. You will set and monitor staff goals and determine, manage, and delegate Outlet priorities. The General Manager evaluates and coaches employees in addition to addressing sub-standard performance and recognizing outstanding staff achievements.What you'll do:You'll have opportunities to design, achieve and build relationships every day as you...Sales Generation:

  • Drive sales and service through goal setting, coaching, motivating/inspiring, development, and follow-up and recognition.
  • Expand the customer's connection to the brand by increasing email sign-up in the Outlet by all members of the staff.
  • Personally prospect for new business on a weekly basis and follow up on staff's prospecting performance.
  • Use product information and design knowledge to demonstrate and explain merchandise features/benefits to staff and customers.
  • Help customers in a courteous, knowledgeable and genuinely interested manner while holding the staff to the same set of expectations.
  • Suggest additional items based on assessing customer's needs; train, coach and recognize staff members to do the same.
  • Close the sale, write a quote and follow up with customer; help staff to meet the same standard.
  • Host design related events per year extending DWR's reach and membership in the local design community.
  • Additionally communicate with other Design Within Reach associates, handle all merchandise returns and customer problems/complaints in a positive manner, and enter customer orders according to company procedures.
  • Assist staff members to resolve all customer service issues, and communicate to Supervisor.Achieves Studio Sales Goals:
    • Lead sales efforts to achieve Studio profit goals.
    • Communicate goals and actual sales to staff regularly.
    • Partner with Supervisor to help overcome obstacles when goals are not being met.
    • Hold self and staff accountable for personal goals.
    • Ensure Studio represents the best in design through presentation and housekeeping.
    • Maximize sales and profitability through interpretation of visual goals and directives (regular, promotional, etc.) to create a strong visual impact.
    • Execute all company directives on time.
    • Prepare for and execute inventories on time.
    • Meet all administrative deadlines; maintain proper files and records.Loss Prevention:
      • Ensure the Outlet is in compliance with loss prevention and safety procedures.
      • Address and resolve all internal/external loss prevention and safety situations promptly.
      • Train and coach staff on loss prevention and safety situations.Staff Development:
        • Grow a strong sales staff.
        • Conduct regular recruiting activities and maintain a pipeline of potential candidates for future openings.
        • Provide ongoing training of current staff.
        • Hold staff accountable to personal/studio goals.
        • Provide consistent communication regarding personal performance.
        • Share company information and direction that will help advance staff and studio performance.
        • Maintain a positive and productive work environment through daily coaching, regular open communication, good humor, and positive associate relations.

          • 5-7 years of transferable retail management and a successful track record to increase sales.
          • Understanding and passion for modern design principles.
          • Results oriented, able to set goals for self and others.
          • Able to provide outstanding customer service and serve as a role model to staff.
          • Knowledge of visual presentation techniques.
          • Able to manage competing priorities, delegate and follow-up.
          • Communicates effectively with all levels, in both written and verbal form.
          • Experience recruiting, training and developing staff members.
          • Action oriented, works with a sense of urgency.
          • Recognize strong performance and coach poor performance promptly. Works well with others, enjoys building relationships and teams.
          • Design or architecture degree preferred.
