Non-Exempt (Hourly) Schedule: variable hours (less than 20 per
week) Reports to: Pastor and/or Director of Liturgy Summary: The
Coordinator of Music Ministry position is responsible for the
direction of music for liturgies and other church services at the
parish. Responsibilities include: organization and direction of
choirs; recruiting and guiding leaders/directors, accompanists, and
singers in all choirs; selection of appropriate music for all
liturgies and related services; and encouragement of participation
by the congregation. The Coordinator of Music will also manage the
music program’s budget including the purchase of music books and
choir octavos for the parish music library, instruments, sound
equipment, and accessories. This position reports to the Pastor or
Vicar and collaborates closely with all clergy and Parish Pastoral
Staff. Requirements Essential Duties The Coordinator of Music
Ministry responsibilities and duties include: Overseeing all church
choirs and selection of music for all liturgies Overseeing the
music for non-liturgical services and events as regards to their
appropriateness for a Catholic parish Expand participation and
overall attendance in all Music Ministries including Liturgical
choir, cantors, accompanists and instrumentalists. Fosters active
participation at the liturgy through congregational singing,
reflective and prayerful execution of instrumental and choral/solo
musical selections. Evaluates current musical resources,
traditions, and potentially adjusts them according to the
ministerial vision of the parish, pastor and clergy. Direct
rehearsals for all of the English choirs and coordinate rehearsals
for Spanish choirs Coordinating with all musicians to ensure
quality continuance of musical performance when Coordinator of
Music Ministry is not present. Maintain a collaborative
relationship with the pastor and director of liturgy regarding
music planning and liturgical planning Oversee the coordinator of
music and musicians for private liturgies (weddings, quinceneras,
funerals) Direct the choir for at least one of the regular
Saturday/Sunday Masses each weekend Communicate with all choir
members regarding liturgy outlines, upcoming events related to the
choir, and any information pertinent to choir membership,
especially as regards to the Archdiocese of San Antonio Assure that
all choir members have completed all safe environment training as
required by the archdiocese Manage and maintaining the choir music
library, ensuring all copyright licensing and usage reporting to
the major musical publishers (GIA, OCP, WLP, CCLI). Manage and
assure proper maintenance of all musical instruments owned by the
parish as well as the choir portion of the church sound system
Other duties as assigned Qualifications The requirements listed
below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability
required. 3-5 years of experience in a Catholic Church setting
preferred Active member of a Roman Catholic parish faith community
Ability to play various musical instruments and proficient on piano
and keyboard, in conducting and in singing Bilingual preferred but
not required Ability to read standard music notation in both treble
and bass clef Knowledge of the musical requirements of the Catholic
Mass Proficient with various computer software (Microsoft Office,
Music writing/editing software). Ability to communicate efficiently
and effectively Working knowledge of basic sound system Proven
leadership or experience managing staff preferred. Ability to
prioritize and to be flexible. Adherence to the Code of Conduct and
the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory Education Bachelor degree
in music or a related field. Supervision This position does not
supervise any employees. However, it does require the supervision
of volunteers. This is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all
