Summary:

The Equipment Specialist is vital for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Operating Room by maintaining and troubleshooting specialty surgical equipment. The Equipment Specialist collaborates with surgeons and other staff to ensure proper equipment use during procedures and provide leadership and mentorship on equipment matters. The role also requires adherence to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a positive patient care environment.



Responsibilities:

• Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  
• Function as the primary resource/expert for specialty surgical equipment operation and use.
  
• Collaborate with staff regarding proper equipment use, maintenance, and repair.
  
• Maintain medical equipment inventory and troubleshoot/repair equipment.
  
• Maintain and troubleshoot specialty equipment, including coordinating repairs.
  
• Oversee medical gases and bone freezer maintenance and alarm systems.
  
• Provide leadership guidance on equipment for staff and vendors, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  
• Collaborate with various departments on equipment issues and capital budget planning.
  
• Act as the Surgery Safety Officer and manage work orders.
  
• Promote teamwork and professional behavior while managing change within the organization.
  
• Mentor team members on safe surgical equipment use.
  
• Coordinate with surgeons on equipment placement for brain and spine surgery.
  
• Assist staff and physicians in operating specialty equipment for efficient patient procedures.
  
• Maintain surgical equipment, order new equipment, and perform special projects.
  
• Ensure BrainLab and Mazor procedures are prepared according to protocols.
  
• Develop individualized plans of care for all equipment and ensure regulatory compliance.
  
• Uphold SCIP measures, National Patient Safety Goals, and Infection Control protocols.
  
• Assist with equipment compliance and maintenance for sterilizers and medical gases.
  
• Monitor bone & tissue freezer and departmental safety compliance.
  
• Assist team members with equipment for patient care and meet attendance expectations.
  
• Identify potential equipment issues and actively participate in improvement initiatives.
  
  
  
  Job Requirements:
  
  Education/Skills
  
  
  • Associate's degree in Electronics, Biomedical Technology, or Manufacturer's training required.
    
    Experience
    
    
    • 2 years of experience working with specialty equipment in a surgical setting required.
      
    • 3-5 years of experience working with specialty equipment in a surgical setting preferred.
      
      Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
      
      
      • BLS required. -
